Lakewest Town Center

Lakewest Town Center

In order to attract business to the West Dallas area, DHA purchased and rehabilitated an aging shopping center, making it the first public housing authority in the nation to own a shopping center. To day, the area bustles with activity and boasts national retail chains such as KFC, Payless Shoe Source, Taco Bell, Subway and H&R Block.

The area also features a 56,000-square foot facility that includes the Lakewest YMCA, a Head Start Program, a police substation and a Parkland Hospital womenís health clinic. The Lakewest project is such a success that President Bush visited in 2003 to kick off his Health America campaign.
